Anyone had it more than once? Someone said you then build a resistance to one strain but there are several strains.

Re: Norovirus
Had this a couple of years ago and it was awful. Had a family lunch out on the Saturday and couldn't understand why I could only eat half a chicken sandwich without feeling bloated. Was due to go out with friends and attempted it but was told I looked a bit grey. One sip of JD and coke and I rushed to the khazi and it was like a scene from The Exorcist, which was quite unnerving because I hadn't actually been sick for something like 25 years!

Tried to soldier on but as soon as we made it to Brighton I declared defeat and went home, just narrowly escaping covering the Taxi driver in vomit. Spent the evening between bed and the bathroom, although bizarrely whilst the nausea was horrendous the other end wasn't too bad.

The Mrs (we didn't live together then) went out with friends that night and was fine up until about 5 hours after I succumbed and it came out of the blue with her as well. We can only put it down to a hotel stay a couple of nights before possibly. All friends and family were absolutely fine.

Worst time was the following Wednesday when I tried some food and had extreme heart burn all night, I thought I was having a heart attack!!

Symptoms are bad for a few days but it wipes you out for weeks. We went to a Christmas do a few weeks later and still weren't right. Had food poisoning as well once and these are as bad as each other. Awful bug.

Just recovering from it ~ It's horrible!
Seems like everyone round here has been suffering from it
My missus was laid up for 4 days, throwing up a lot of the time. I then got it & was laid up for 2 days mainly with the shits
All you cn do is rest & drink lots of water. Apparently, eating salted crisps can help (if you can hold them down)
Regularly washing your hands obviously helps too minimise the risk of catching it, as does keeping all work surfaces in the kitchen disinfected

There is something very humbling about lying in a big puddle of your own shit and puke.

Re: Norovirus
Nasty, nasty virus this one.
Just been on a two week cruise where the Norovirus was already present from the previous people. The ship underwent a deep clean and all food was served by the crew (no help yourself in the buffet) which I prefer anyway. We had to use handwash almost every time you entered a public room or the restaurant which again is fine by me. We had a leaflet on how the virus can be spread and how it can still be active after many hours. The older you are the more it can be debilitating. Personal hygiene and minimising risk is the key.

Shit. I share a single toilet with 5 dirty YOUKNOWWHATS who work in a hospital where there's a major outbreak. Doubt even nazi hand hygiene will save me this time around.

Had it co-incidentally just after midnight on New Year's Eve about 10 year ago. A very unpleasant start to the year ensued. When they have an outbreak on boats it must be very unpleasant...

My Dad, born in 39, CHRONIC asthmatic all his life, got a dose over Christmas. Had to be held up by mum whilst pissing he was that weak.

The old man should be in the pub by the 3rd.

My dad my hero.

Years ago Mrs Congo and I had what with hindsight was this at the same time. Truly awful, neither of us did more than stagger to the bathroom for about four days.

I had food poisoning a few weeks back but at one point thought it could be this.

It's pretty fucking evil by all accounts. At least you can have a few kebabs in the new. Year and not be bothered by the weight.

It pays to be a fanatical hand washer at this time of year, especially if you use public transport. People are generally disgusting, ambulant petri dishes. I prefer spiders to humans.

Oh and coca cola (regular, not diet) shaken up till it goes flat, and taken at room temperature to rehydrate the afflicted. Kids especially are more likely to drink this than Diorilyte (? Spelling) which tastes like blackcurrant flavoured snot.
